THE PIÑATA WALKING PROJECT

Deitch Projects (New York · 2007).

This project came out as an invitation from the Gallery Deitch Projects to participate in his Art Parade. This event opened the exhibition season in New York with the Gallery and guest artists' exhibiting their pieces in the street in a the Parade in New York Soho's West Broadway from Houston to Grand Street , with the participation of artist : Yoko Ono, Fischerspooner, Friends with Me, Steve Powers, Tauba Auerbach, Kembra Pfahler, Assume Vivid Astro focus, Scissor Sisters, Swoon...

 I was very excited to participate in this BIG event and it occurred to me to walk together 3 of the most detestable people at that time (the event is a PARADE and I had only seen the Parade of Disneyland when I was little ... there Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto the Dog) ... so I decided that Hugo Chavez, George Bush & Tony Blair were for me like the mouse, the dog and the duck and I wanted to see the public reaction to them.

I thought about doing Piñatas so the people would decide if we beat them or pardon them ... and then to ridicule them a little more, they started the Parade dressed on suits and ended up naked in their underwear. For the music I wanted to have a BIG band performing the 3 National Anthems (Venezuela, USA and UK and then mix them together) So I was accompanied by amazing MARCHING BAND from the Columbia University (CUMB).

I didn't realize at the moment that it was very controversial to walk a Piñata of the current (at that time) President of the United States in underwear 😬... but everything went pretty well.
